It is a molded sintered material with a rare earth element, Neodymium (17 atoms: atomic no. 21, 39. 57~71), iron oxide, and boron as major components. It has high energy, thin and light-weighted material that is used heavily for state-of-art products.
Its cost is relatively lower than Sm-Co magnets, thus, its use is rapidly increasing in various areas. However, it has weak thermal properties and needs to be taken care for oxidation (rusting).
Uses
It is used in a variety of areas including baby products, advertisement, automotive parts, shipbuilding materials, stationery, etc.
Features
- It has the highest energy among commercial magnets. (25¡50MGOe)
- It depends strongly on temperature, therefore, a magnet with appropriate properties at an operation temperature must be chosen.
(Use selectively, thermal property depending on temperature: 80¡É¡200¡É).
- It has small size among industrial magnetic material. It also has strong magnetic properties and used for special products.
- It has relatively good processability.
- It is highly oxidizable so coating is applied for use in general.
